Thing 22 - Staying Current

The "23 Things" have shown shown me "Things" that I wouldn't have explored otherwise. Some I knew about, but was not interested in trying. Others were a complete eye opener. This project has been good educational experience overall.

Thing 21 - Student 2.0 Tools

This was a helpful new "Thing" to me. The assignment calculator would be great with some of my school assignments. My favorite support material was the Taking Notes form, which I printed to use right now.

Thing 20 - Books 2.0

This "Thing" introduced the Kindle 2, which I fell in love with. The audio aspect is great! I want one when they have color for the photos. Once again I ran into some of the sites wanting you to join to get information, so those were out of the running for me. My favorite "Things" in this section are: BooksinMyPhone, What Should I Read Next?, Bookmarked, Booksprouts, Open Culture, Metacritic and BookBrowse. Open Culture offers free online courses from some great Universities. In the optional section I liked Sillybooks.

Thing 19 - Other Social Networks

I liked the few "Things" I was able to view without joining - WebJunction, Film Crave and What's on my Bookshelf. Ning, Gather and Flixter made you join with them to explore the website. I would have liked to have taken a class or two with WebJunction, however I quickly changed my mind when I saw $40 charges attached to each.

Thing 18 - Facebook and MySpace

This "Thing" is very popular today with alot of people. I don't care for it, maybe due to my free time limitations. If I were having extra time to kill or secluded away from human contact, this "Thing" would be quite attractive.

Thing 17 - Podcasts

For this "Thing" I added CNN's RSS feed to my Blog Reader account. I like getting the haedline news sent to me automatically as it's released. I am not going to sign up for GCAST, because I'm not creating a podcast.

I really like this "Thing", and it probably is my new favorite. Since I am a pug mommy, I had to post one of the pug videos.

Thing 15 - Rollyo

I didn't want to set up another account I wasn't going to use, just for this "Thing". If I need this in the future I know where to go. I used the site for searching a couple of different topics, but I didn't care for it that much.

Thing 13 - Library Thing

I love this "Thing", it is my favorite so far! I like the recommendations and blogs of others - it is very helpful. This is something that I would continue to use long after the 23 Things have been completed.

Thing 12 - Wiki

This "Thing" could be useful as explained in the "Common Craft video on Wiki". I did not set up a Wiki account, because right now I don't have a need for it. I completed the exercise of doing an entry in the Sandbox. It is after some German text and says "This is a test 3-9-09, 23 things at the lake".

Thing 11 - Social Media

This "Thing" is a different way to get your news, but you have to consider the source for each entry. I shared the CNN story "Five places to go before global warming messes them up" on Mixx. My first choice was Reddit, however they want you to sign up for an account with them - Mixx did not. After sharing the story it told me that I was the 61st CNN reader to recommend this story, and asked me to post a comment.

Thing 10 - Tagging and Delicious

This "Thing" is new to me. I tagged one of my blog slideshows, as well as checked out the delicious website. I was able to access information without signing up with an account, which was nice. I may use it in the future for school projects.

Thing 9 - Sharing Slides, Photos, Databases

This "Thing" is so cool I had to try it 3 times! I used Slideshare to do this thing.

Thing 8 - Communication Web 2.0 Style

This "Thing" I am familiar with, as I have used it to communicate with friends and relatives. It is another new way to give information to our patrons, but would require a dedicated person or two to man the IM requests.
Text Messaging I don't care for. My daughter will text me, but I would rather use the cell phone.
I haven't had the opportunity to use Opal, but it sounds interesting.

Thing 7 - Online Image Generators

This "Thing" was a lot of fun and not as frustrating as the last. Letter James was so much more user friendly than Spell with Flickr. As you can see I actually got it to work!

Thing 6 - Flickr Mashups

This "Thing" (so far) is taking the most time to figure out. I am still unable to complete the spell with Flickr section, however Flickr photo puzzels worked. It sounds like everyone at this branch of the libary is also unable to accomplish the spell with Flicker task - so I don't feel so bad. If someone does figure it out, I will come back and "Spell with Flickr" on my blog.

Thing 5 - Flickr

This "Thing" could take a while to play with and get perfected! I did sign up with any account and will use it to complete some of the "things" with my Blog. However, I'm not ready to upload my personal photos. When I get time I will explore the others that were suggested like Picasa Web Albums and Smugmug.

Thing 4 - RSS and Newsreaders

I think this "Thing" was a very useful and time saving thing. I added some sites, as well as some co-workers blogs to my blog. However, some sites that I tried to add thier RSS to - went to my MSN home page instead. I also tried to add sites to My Yahoo and it wouldn't accept it there either. I will have to play around with this new found friend some more.

Thing 3 - Blog Search Tools

As warned in one of the articles I read, I also found most of the blog search tools were useless. The one search tool I did find helpful was "Google Blog Search". I used the same search criteria in all of the different sites and compared the results. The differences were astounding!

Thing 2 - Web 2.0 and Library 2.0

I found this "Thing" to be quite fun. I even set up a "LibraryThing" account. This is a really great website for bookworms! However I still believe I am not interested in a "MySpace" or "FaceBook" account.

Thing 1 - Setting up a Blog

This was very easy (I hope I did it right). I will be perfecting it over time, but I feel comfortable with the basic set-up.
PS I have never blogged before.
